Kenya, East Africa, Indian Ocean

Watamu, Kenya: Dives 41-44

After living in Western Kenya for 2 months, I was able to get to the coast and dive off the coast of Watamu. Damaged by the 1997 El Nino, the coral reefs were slowly recovering, but are mostly intact below 10-13 meters. But it is a fairly reliable place to find whale sharks (see dive 42).

Location: N. Canyon; Watamu, Kenya from Aquaventures
Depth: 20.8m Time: 0:44
Comments: Coronet fish, spotted stingrays x 2, lots of jellyfish, damsel fish, grunts, giant trevally, some parrotfish, squirrel fish, grouper, and fire dartfish.

Dive: 42 Date: 2/24/2003

Dive: 43 Date: 2/25/2003
Location: Moray Reef; Watamu, Kenya from Aquaventures
