Los Angeles Basin

Amusement Parks
Disneyland The amusement park that started it all--it is located in Anaheim.
Knott's Berry Farm One of the oldest amusement park, it is located minutes away from Disneyland in Buena Park.
Magic Mountain One of the many Six Flags theme parks, it is known for its roller coasters. Hurricane Harbor, a water park, is located right next door.
Universal Studios The "movie studio" turned theme park. Also contains Universal City Walk, a promenade area with shops, restaurants, live entertainment, and a large multiplex movie theatre.

Hollywood
Seeing Stars in Hollywood So, you've come to LA and you want to see the moviestars. Well, this site tells you everything you could possibly want to know about Hollywood, both old and new, plus info on where your chances are best on star-gazing.

Museums
Getty Center The Getty Center, which just recently opened, is a large museum complex located on the hills overlooking Brentwood and the San Diego Freeway.
Los Angeles County Museum of Art Arguably the best public art museum west of the Mississippi River. It is located near the downtown area of Los Angeles on Wilshire Boulevard in the Museum District.
Norton Simon Museum of Art One of several art museums in the LA basin, it is located in the San Gabriel Valley in Pasadena.
Huntington Library and Garden Another art museum, it too is located in the San Gabriel Valley in Pasadena.
LA Holocaust Monument This museum attempts to bring home the nightmare of the Holocaust.
Page Museum Better known as the La Brea Tarpits, the museum houses skeletons of now extinct mammals that roamed the area, including mammoths, mastodons, sloths, sabre-toothed tigers, etc. Located in the Museum District, it is next-door to the LA County Museum of Art.
Petersen Automotive Museum Part of the LA County museum system, it is dedicated to that American and especially Los Angeles icon, the automobile. It is also located in the Museum District.

Other Attractions
Griffith Park The largest park in Los Angeles, it has hiking trails, bike paths, pony rentals, a merry-go-round, etc.
Griffith Park Observatory The planetarium and observatory located in Griffith Park. Has one of the best views of Los Angeles at night.
Hannah Carter Japanese Garden Located in Bel Air, the gardens are affiliated with UCLA and are only accessible by reservation.
Los Angeles Zoo The biggest fault of the LA Zoo is that it's too close to San Diego...
Movieland Wax Museum The wax museum containing many wax replicas of moviestars, both past and present.
Santa Monica Pier The Pier is a fun place to hang out.
Staples Center The new home of Lakers, Clippers, Kings, etc.
Third Street Promenade Located in Santa Monica, it comes alive at night with street performers, especially on the weekends.
University of California, Los Angeles UCLA, home of Pauley Pavillion, John Wooden, 11 national men's basketball titles, Murphy sculpture garden, Powell Library, and Royce Hall. Seen in many movies, it has a beautiful campus.
University of Southern California USC, home of many college football national championships, it is located in South-Central Los Angeles.

Greater San Diego

San Diego Zoo and the San Diego Wild Animal Park Both run by the Zoological Society of San Diego, the Zoo and Wild Animal Park are world-class and arguably the best in the world.
Sea World The marine life "theme park" that is famous for its killer whales (all named Shamu, gets kinda confusing), seals, etc. If you go you gotta touch the stingrays and see the California moray eel exhibit.
University of California, San Diego Located in La Jolla, UCSD is one of the University of California campuses.

Outside of Southern California

Las Vegas, coming soon....
Mt. Whitney Tallest point in the continental United States, it is located in the eastern Sierra Nevada mountains and is a favorite "day hike" destination. You need permits for spending the night and hiking to the top. Call for reservations. For conditions try this site.
Yosemite National Park One of the jewels of the National Park system, Yosemite was made famous by Ansel Adams and John Muir. In the summer it is very crowded and you need to have a reservation if you plan on staying in the park overnight.
